Call for Nominations and Announcement of AGM – The Music Hall Alliance Board

The Music Hall Alliance, an incorporated not for profit in Hamilton, is seeking volunteer board members for its inaugural elected board. The Music Hall Alliance’s mission is to operate a not-for-profit, independent & accessible creative hub in the heart of downtown Hamilton.

You would be joining the board in an exciting time in the development of The Music Hall. Up until now, a few dedicated volunteers have been working alongside the landlord (Trustees of the New Vision United Church) to create a viable business plan and secure initial funding for renovations to the historic former church on Main Street (adjacent to the Art Gallery) in Hamilton.

The venue is uniquely capable of hosting acts, performances, community events, and TV and film shoots with a professional sound and lighting system, wrap around balcony and fantastic acoustics. A ten year lease has been signed with the Trustees of the New Vision United Church for the former sanctuary and related spaces.

The Music Hall is committed to the values of diversity, equity and inclusion and seeks a board that is representative of the user groups and the community at large. You may be well suited to this board if you are a musician, performer, entertainment promoter, venue operator, accountant, lawyer, cultural or community group representative, have board experience and/or are a passionate consumer of live entertainment.

This will be an active hands on board until such time as funds are available to hire staff. The intention is that at some point in the future this board will become a governance style board.

The first AGM (Annual General Meeting) of The Music Hall Alliance is scheduled to be held at The Music Hall/New Vision United Church, 24 Main St. W., Hamilton, ON L8P 1H2 on Thursday April 9, 2026, at 7 p.m. Online participation via Zoom will be possible but we would prefer to see you in person.

At the AGM, the board will be elected from the membership. Membership is free. You can sign up on our website or send us an email. We would ask those interested in serving on the board to send in a self-nomination email stating why they want to be on the board and what qualifications they bring. Send to jacqnorton@gmail.com. These nominations must be received by March 22, 2026 and will be shared with all members to help them make their voting choices. The Music Hall team has worked with architects and engineers, City of Hamilton departments, music industry professionals and audiences and partners to develop a pathway for the community to make a gathering place for events and performances in this City of Hamilton designated heritage building.
